This information is simplified for simulation.

The Challenger FMS provides Actual Landing Distance (ALD) and Landing Field Length (LFL) data. For certification reasons on a dry runway both ALD and LFL are available, but on a wet runway only LFL can be calculated, and on contaminated runways only ALD can be calculated. Furthermore the ALD is determined by parametric assessment of aircraft performance and as such it is very unlikely the aircraft will achieve this performance in real world operations.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Global Reporting Format (GRF) sought to replace runway contamination and depth information with a Runway Condition Code (RWYCC) that describes expected braking action without pilots needing to interpret contaminant information. The RWYCCs are detailed in the Runway Condition Assessment Matrix (RCAM). The FAA's Takeoff and Landing Performance Assessment (TALPA) initiative seeks to provide pilots with more accurate performance numbers for their airplanes representative of in-service operations.

As a result Challenger operators now have access to Operational Landing Distance (OLD) tables, or equivalent electronic performance tools. These are used instead of FMS landing performance calculation. However it is possible to calculate a Factored OLD (FOLD) by using the FMS and applying factors manually. This method is appropriate for both EASA and FAA regulated operations. Both OLD tables and FOLD calculations include a 15% operational safety margin.

Enter all applicable landing details into the FMS APPROACH REF pages as normal, but always select DRY for the RWY COND on APPROACH REF 1/4. Using the table below, determine the applicable factor, and enter this in the LAND FACT field on APPROACH REF 2/4. The ALD output on APPROACH REF 2/4 will now be a conservative estimate of FOLD.

Example APPROACH REF 2/4 showing landing performance for RWYCC 4:
